Education

Education is a cornerstone of the Catholic Church and the history of the Catholic Church in Australia is synonymous with education.

Catholic education remains a critical part of the education mix in this country. For instance in 2016, 20.2 per cent of all students were enrolled in Catholic schools.1

Although the presence of religious orders in schools has diminished, the mission of the Church in these schools is taken up today by many wonderful and highly qualified lay people.

As the Catholic Church in Australia looks forward to maintaining its critical role in education, we focus on one outstanding education institution: The St Mary’s Cathedral College.
