Memorial of St Peter Julian Eymard – 2nd August 2023

Today at the cathedral, we will commemorate the Memorial of St Peter Julian Eymard (1811-1868), priest, because we have a church dedicated to this saint within our Cathedral parish boundaries: St Peter Julian’s at Haymarket. St Peter Julian founded the Blessed Sacrament Fathers, and it is a blessing to have their Eucharistic shrine on busy George Street.
This Wednesday, being August 2nd, is also the day of the “Portiuncula Indulgence”, when the grant of a Plenary Indulgence may be gained by visiting a Basilica, Cathedral or Parish Church (and St Mary’s Cathedral is all three of those – but you can only gain the indulgence once on the day!) and praying and Our Father and the Creed, and fulfilling the other usual requirements of Confession, Communion and prayer for the intentions of the Holy Father.
