Who Can Become a Chorister?

- Children join the Choir in Year 3.
- No prior musical training is required.
- Qualities we look for: Enthusiasm, musical interest, focus, responsibility, and a willingness to learn.
What Does Chorister Life Involve?
Weekly Schedule
Joining the Choir is a significant but deeply rewarding commitment. Choristers take part in:
- Morning rehearsals before school
- Two weekday evening rehearsals and Masses
- Sunday rehearsal and Mass or rehearsal and Vespers, depending on the schedule.
Musical Education
Every Chorister receives:
- Weekly individual vocal tuition
- Weekly piano lessons
These develop strong musicianship, confidence, and a solid technical foundation.
Schooling at the Cathedral College
All Choristers attend St Mary’s Cathedral College, the Cathedral’s choir school. Choristers receive a full tuition scholarship, ensuring that this exceptional experience is accessible to families from across Sydney.
