Special Note
St Mary’s Cathedral is over 150 years old. As such, an iconic and unique structure comes with many significant challenges with maintenance and repairs. We have a significant issue which requires us to carry out major repairs to the southern entrance (main entrance) of the Cathedral. This work will commence 28 April and continue till 30 October 2025.
This work requires us installing hoarding along the front of the Cathedral and at certain times will impact the entrance to the Cathedral. Due to the nature of this work, we will not know until closer to your wedding date how or if these works will affect your arrival to the Cathedral.
- God who is love and who created man and woman for love has called them to love. By creating man and woman he called them to an intimate communion of life and of love in marriage: “So that they are no longer two, but one flesh” (Matthew 19:6). God said to them in blessing “Be fruitful and multiply” (Genesis 1:28).
- Since Matrimony establishes spouses in a public state of life in the Church, its liturgical celebration is public, taking place in the presence of a priest (or of a witness authorized by the Church) and other witnesses.
Weddings are generally celebrated in the Parish Church of one of the spouses but may also be held at St Mary’s Cathedral.
Please read the Guidelines for Weddings at St Mary’s Cathedral, Sydney.
