Fr. William Chow, Assistant Priest, and Chaplain to St. Vincent’s Hospital, Darlinghurst. 

Father William Chow is an Assistant Priest at St Mary’s Cathedral and Chaplain to St. Vincent’s Hospital.

Fr William arrived at St Mary’s Cathedral after serving in the Parishes of Our Lady of the Rosary, Fairfield, St. Felix da Valois, Bankstown, and as a Chaplain to Bankstown Hospital, Bankstown.

As Assistant Priest Fr William hopes to “Celebrate the Sacrament’s reverently and maintain the patrimony of St. Mary’s Cathedral and through that help to bring our people and all those who come to St. Mary’s Cathedral closer to God”.

Father William says “It has been most rewarding to see the large number of people who come to all of our Mass’s and devotions in St. Mary’s Cathedral.  Our people’s faith and devotion has helped to enrich my own spirituality and relationship with God.”

In his role as Chaplain in St. Vincent’s Hospital, Fr William says “It has been rewarding to serve and be there at a time when those who are sick and their families are in need for a Priest to help give comfort and guidance”. 

Most people may be confused when they see Fr William and hear his voice at Mass.  He has a Chinese background with his family originally from Hong Kong, however they immigrated to Vancouver, Canada when he was young.  So, Fr William speaks English with a Canadian accent!

Fr William went to seminary in Hong Kong and Sydney and was ordained on 3rd August 2019 in St. Mary’s Cathedral by Most Rev. Anthony Fisher, OP, Archbishop of Sydney.

St. Mary’s Cathedral means a lot to Fr William, as he was ordained a Deacon and Priest in this Cathedral.  More importantly, though Fr. William says “St. Mary’s is real a gathering place and place of worship for all the Catholics in Sydney, Australia, and beyond.  It is an honor to serve in St. Mary’s”.
