Fr Roberto Keryakos is an Assistant Priest at St Mary’s Cathedral.
Fr Roberto was born and raised in Sydney. He attended secondary school at St Mary’s Cathedral College and sang in St Mary’s Cathedral Choir as a Chorister, Scholar and Lay Clerk.
His musical gifts saw him study at the University of New South Wales where he graduated in 2013 with a Bachelor of Music and a Bachelor of Education. He joined the Seminary of the Good Shepherd in 2013 and in 2020 was ordained to the priesthood at St Mary’s Cathedral. Fr Roberto began his priestly ministry in the parish of All Saints’, Liverpool, then to Sacred Heart, Cabramatta in 2022.
In January 2024, Archbishop Fisher appointed Fr Roberto to St Mary’s Cathedral as an Assistant Priest. Fr Roberto’s role as Assistant Priest at the Cathedral also sees him as Chaplain to St Mary’s Cathedral Choir, St Mary’s Cathedral College, and the RCIA Program.
Being a priest at St Mary’s Cathedral is somewhat of a homecoming for Fr Roberto, who grew up in the Cathedral Choir and College, and some of the current Cathedral, Choir and College Staff still remember him as a younger man.
Being a priest for Fr Roberto is a great privilege and blessing, and when asked about what he loves about the priesthood, he remarks, “I love spending time with God in worship and prayer, and in being able to minister to God’s holy people in the different situations of life. I see myself as a servant of God and a servant of the Church. God and people are my two greatest loves and joys.”
