The patron saint of Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking, St Josephine Bakhita was born in Sudan in 1869 and was enslaved as a child. She lived a life of torture until eventually being freed. Despite her struggles she committed her life to God and served him faithfully by working effectively to free other girls and women from slavery.

Pope Francis has requested Catholic communities worldwide to join him in commemorating St Bakhita’s Day on 8th February 2022, the Catholic Anti-Slavery Day. The Archbishop of Sydney, Most Reverend Anthony Fisher OP, joins the Holy Father, in urging every parish to commemorate St Bakhita’s Feast Day with a Mass.

Please note: 1:10pm Mass will be the only Mass of the day commemorating the Memorial, the rest of the scheduled Masses will be the Mass of Tuesday of the Fifth Week in Ordinary Time.
